COMMON WORSHIP. UNCOMMON LITURGY.

Misneach mass by kate durbin

Misneach Mass is a meditative liturgy that centers on the beauty of God’s love in the midst of a broken world.

Misneach, pronounced [MISH-nock], is a Gaelic word for courage, hopefulness, and a sense of pushing forward through uncertainty. Within each of the six liturgical pieces, you will find the threads of traditional Irish music as you connect to the ancient liturgical words through meditation and repetition.

It was composed in 2016 while I (Kate) attended Mercy Seat Lutheran Church in Northeast Minneapolis. It was a deeply moving and energizing time for me as I deepened my faith while writing music. We all are creative (not just artists!), created in the image of a creative and loving God.

Written for small and large communities to come together in worship within any of the varied church settings - Sunday morning worship (virtual or in-person), Lenten or Advent services, summer camp, or even Synod Assembly.

“Misneach Mass is unique, beautiful, singable, and flexible! My congregation loved the melodies and instrumentation. I encourage you to try it out with yours!”

— Heather, Director of Music in ELCA Congregation

About KATE

I'm a creator, composer, and project manager. I approach my creative work and ordinary life with mindfulness, authenticity, and a deep fascination and appreciation for human diversity (and an eye for detail).

I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota with my husband, two girls, and two mischievous cats. When I'm not writing music, spending time with my little family, organizing my junk drawer, or camping, you can find me making music at the traditional Irish sessions in town.
